As an important mechanism to promote pharmaceutical innovation, intellectual property protection plays a vital role in the pharmaceutical industry. The Third EU-China Intellectual Property Webinar was held successfully on May 18, 2021. The webinar is organized by EU-China Joint Innovation Center (EUCJIC) with support of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and co-organized by International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), China IP SME Helpdesk funded by European Commission and Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, with National Business Daily as our media partner.
On the theme of “IP Protection in Medicine and Healthcare Industry” , guest speakers including Ms. Wei Qing, Representative of International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), Mr. Matias Zubimendi, IP Business Advisor at China IP SME Helpdesk funded by European Commission, Ms. Carissa H. Li, IP expert from Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, and Ms. Jing Zhao, IP expert from LLR France shared their expertise on the status quo, recent policies and future directions of the IP protection in medicine and healthcare industry, as well as problems and corresponding solutions in their working experience. We have particularly invited guests from European embassies, chambers of commerce, enterprises and universities and offered live streaming on multiple platforms, such as National Business Daily, Sina Weibo, Baidu, Jinri Toutiao and Xigua Video. Over 400,000 audiences in total watched it live.
The webinar started at 15:00 with an opening speech from Ms. Wei Qing representing ICDPASO. She stressed the far-reaching significance of IP protection medicine and healthcare industry in building a fair and reasonable mechanism and in promoting the coordinated development of global cooperation in medicine and healthcare industry, and in IP Protection. She also invited the EU-China Joint Innovation Center, the initial member of the ICDPASO to jointly take more practical measures for the development of IP protection in China in the future.
The second speaker, Mr. Matias Zubimendi, shared the experiences of EU SMEs with IP protection in the healthcare sector. He also advised the enterprises to build a comprehensive strategy for IP protection in medicine and healthcare industry.
As the IP expert from Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone Administration, and President of IP Commercialization Group, AIPPI China, Ms. Carissa H. Li shared a few actual cases of IP due diligence in medical investment, especially in the Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone.
Ms. Jing Zhao, IP expert from LLR France talked about the pharmaceutical patent linkage system in China and shared its actual practice and the coming new system.
